Squarepusher/Plaid

Allstar
News has a review up of the Coachella festival, and they
included pieces on Plaid and Squarepusher:
With laptop computers
flipped open and warm melodies buzzing from the sound system,
English electronic duo Plaid provided the perfect soundtrack
for the sunny desert afternoon in the small and sparsely populated
Goby tent. Overlapping the synth sounds of '70s Krautrock
with the clicks and whirls of experimental techno, the duo
churned out a handful of richly textured tunes as the small
group of onlookers bobbed their heads, but never felt the
need to actually dance along. Plaid will further test its
appeal to the U.S. when it drops Double Figure May 29 on Warp
Records.
A sudden increase in crowd
size at the tail end of Plaid's set hinted to Squarepusher's
arrival. Sounding like an Atari system on crack, Squarepusher
(a.k.a. Thomas Jenkinson) was the perfect follow-up, clocking
in at over 300 beats per minute and shattering the mellow
mood with all kinds of oddly timed beats and demented samples.
Jenkinson spent much of his time performing hidden behind
equipment, fiddling with knobs and pumping his fist into
the air. Going from drum-and-bass to ethereal soundscapes
faster than you can say Aphex Twin, there was little confusion
about who pushed the envelope the furthest this evening.
The whole article can be read here.
Thanks a lot to: Ryan.
