December 25, 00 - 2:15 pm EST Early last week I had the exclusive first listen opportunity to experience Nine Inch Nails' very own Danny Lohner and Josh Eustis of Telefon Tel Avid's remix of a Perfect Circle's yet to be released "3 Libras" single; due out January 1st, 2001 in UK retail outlets. From their original team up when they remixed a Perfect Circle's "Judith" to their heart-pumping, non-stopping, reinvented remix of Nine Inch Nails' "Where Is Everybody?" off the recently released NIN EP "Things Falling Apart," I can't get enough of their incredible collaboration force. What made a Perfect Circle's music loved by so many critics and fans everywhere was of course many visible differences such as their soft yet hard at times melodic structure, Paz's monstrous rock bass, guitarist (and band founder) Billy Howerdel and of course enigmatic Tool lead singer Maynard James Keenan. What Danny's and Josh's last two remixes do so well is the fact they completely strip the music from its roots and leave the artist's voice stretch bare bone up against their always edgy yet soothing unique beats. Never leaving a note unturned during their entire 4 and a half minute manipulation they call "Feel My Ice", the remix slowly swifts you along the soft and smooth flow the original track was intended to do so on a Perfect Circle's platinum Mer De Noms. Barely unrecognizable, Danny and Josh manage to yet again completely capture the soul essence of Maynard's unmistakable and one of a kind enchanting voice fluently during their entire dreamy echoing style remix. Although I wouldn't go about to say Massive Attacks' 7 minute titled "All Main Courses" remix of "3 Libras," which is also found on the single, is more challenging or imaginable than Danny's and Josh's version. I can guarantee after your first listen of their latest collaboration, you will surely beg for more... Fans can preorder the single through the Weathermen Records for $10.99, which they will ship their copies on or around January 11th, 2001.
