Comments:
* Tracks 1-19 are live from Los Angeles
* Tracks 20-28 are the Purest Feeling tracks.
This title is nice because it lets you compare their more current
performance style to Trent's original. Part one was recorded October
11th, 1994 at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles.
Part two was recorded in November 1988 at the Right Track (Trent
original Demos). This is straight from the mixboard tapes and comes in
super-stereo. There are definite left and right tracks (Extremely rare
in imports) and makes it sound GREAT!!
The sound quality on this one is average. The stereo image shifts all
around a bit. It gets annoying, but since this is the only CD boot
(that i know of) of the second leg of the tour, it is dealable. It
sounds like it is being played back form a tapedeck with dolby(tm)
noise reduction turned on, without the recording being encoded for it.
(It is muffled when it gets quiet. My guess is that this was done to
quiet down the crowd noise. It worked, but a bit too well. The
beginning of Eraser is almost inaudible. And Hurt is hard to hear.
Bass definition is a bit messy. It's about on par with Coming Down
Fast.
Audience noise is usally fairly low. Every once in a while you can
hear someone talking.
There is a loud feedback whine for about 2 second in Ruiner...
In the beginning of "Head Like a Hole", he mumbles "Ohhh.... ohhh....
Annie..... Annie....". and in the beginning of "Piggy" he says in a
very meek voice, "I'm stuck, somebody help me."

* Tracks 12-15 are done with David Bowie.
This appears to be from an audience tape, and the sound quality isn't
the greatest. The insert in the cd is pretty cool as it gives all the
date for the '95 tour and there's a mini trent photo gallery. Right
before burn starts, Trent says "burn fuckers"

Comments:
This is decent quality; a bit tinny, probably made from a analogue
cassette master. The quality is decent. Audience noise is very low.
The mix on Sanctified is strange. It is an entirely new orchestration
for the song; it sounds cool, almost worth it just for that. It also
has an almost instrumental version to Ringfinger (listed as "The Only
Time") -- Perhaps Trent forgot to sing the first few bars.
It's a eh recording. I've heard much better, but I've heard much
worse.

Comments:
This disc is rumoured to actually be a show from New Orleans, LA
rather than Atlanta, GA.
A very good recording. Supplimental material is also very good. The
quality is quite good for an audience. It does have a full set,
including all of the encore. Clarity of the sound is a bit above
average, although bass is a tad undefined and messy.
Audience noise is decent. You can hear particular people.

Comments:
Crossed Nails has very clear sound quality to it, although sometimes
distorted. It is one of the best non-soundboard bootlegs out there,
but it is not worth buying if you're looking for something new (ie its
first few songs playlist are the same first songs they played at
Woodstock... almost in the same order... ya know?) The concert isn't
that long either.
Probably the best live audience recording of NIN. Excellent clarity,
excellent bass definition. There is no encore on the disc though. It
seems as if Trent was not happy about the audience's participation, or
lack thereof.
Some lines he said:
In the end of "March Of The Pigs", he changes the line "now they can
all sleep soundly", to "Now all of you people can just suck my dick",
and he makes it fit in perfectly.
In the beginning of "Suck", he gives an explanation for the song:
"This song is about wrapping your dick in a fly strip, and fucking a
cow up the ass with it"
In "Sin", "Why don't you people just fucking sit down?"
Audience noise is very very low. the Audience sounds like a whole.
Hard to pick out particular people.
Very highly recommended. It is not as good as When The Whip Comes
Down, which is soundboard quality.
From ANON.
ADAM stated that none of these lines are actually said on the disc.

Children Of The Night' which is this release.
This boot has been referred as the closest thing to an official NIN
live album.
A VERY NICE soundboard recording from the Outside 1995 Bowie tour. The
only audible audience noise is at the beginning and the end. The live
songs have much, much, much more put into it, and it almost sounds
like you're listening to one of the official NIN releases (the music
at least).
The last song, Hurt, is _very_ different. It has a looping
guitar/whatever melody playing, with other sounds from the original
Hurt melody, and Bowie begins singing, with Trent singing not long
after.
Trent doesn't make those "extra comments" a whole lot. In fact, the
only thing he says to the audience is "fuck you!" in March of the
Pigs.

This is a collection of rare demos/remixes. This bootleg is AWESOME.
It has unreleased remixes. Unfortunately, only the 2nd print of it is
being manufactured nowadays. The 2nd print is just a little bit...
hissy, at the silent parts of the CD. Other than that, it's worth
getting if you see it.
Track by Track Breakdown
1. Down In It -- This cool version of DII has the traditional DII
intro, then breaks into a version of the song similar to that on
Head Like A Hole (halo 3) (demo version).
2. Sanctified -- A happy-ish version of Sanctified. It has this cool
beat for the whole thing not in the Pretty Hate Machine (halo2)
version (similar to the one on Purest Feeling).
3. Kinda I Want To -- The silliest version of this (or any NIN) song.
Think of it as a Depeche Mode song with Trent on vocals (similar to
the one on Purest Feeling).
4. Twist (Version) -- Different version of Twist (similar to the one
on Purest Feeling).
5. Down In It (Big Whole Mix) -- DII mostly whispered over a hi-hat,
and a spacey feel to it.
6. Suck (Live) -- Soundboard recording of "Suck" live at Lollapalooza
(Same as Suck (halo 0)).
7. Supernaut (Original) -- The original "Supernaut": very hard. (Same
as Suck (halo 0)).
8. Down In It (Demo) -- Same as the demo version as on Head Like A
Hole (halo 3).
9. Head Like A Hole (Version) (Flood Mix) -- This one was called "You
Know Who You Are" On Head Like A Hole (halo 3). It is all
instrumental.
10. Sin (DJ Edit) -- From a vinyl LP. Sounds like a mix of Sin from
Sin (halo 4). Not actually on it, and not significantly different
than any other version. Slightly different beginning and the
middle bridge is a bit shorter.
11. Head Like A Hole (Go-Go Mix) -- From a vinyl LP. A hip-hop version
of Head Like A Hole. This is the infamous "Opal Mix" from the
import version of Head Like A Hole (halo 3). It is somewhat upbeat,
and has the "You Know Who You Are" at the end of the song. The
"Head like a hole, black as your soul" bridges are muffled
(intentionally).
12. Wish (DJ Edit) -- From a Vinyl LP. Same as Wish from Broken (halo
5) with 3 differences: "Now there's nothing more Fauled up I can
do", "I'm the one with this big hiding hole", and "Gotta listen to
your big time, hard line, bad luck ------". This is the UK Promo
version.
13. Suck (Demo) -- This is the Pigface version. Minimalistic, with
just a drum as backup.
14. Down In It (Skin Mix) -- This is directly from Down In It (halo
1). It has a riff from Terrible Lie fade out at the end.

Avoid this at all costs since it is merely a *bad* repackaging of a
bunch of remixes from various singles (both North-American and UK).
This is not worth the money at all.
From ANON.
Ok, I just got a copy of Demos & Remixes Volume 2. So far it looks
like a collection of offical releases just compiled on one cd. I have
just finished listening to the first 6 tracks on it...
I even included all of the mispellings just like the track list does
on the case.
From GREG.
Most of the tracks from D and R II are just remixes from the halos but
called different things. Good remix of Sin but I think that is also
from the single (sin dub). March of the pigs (Demo) sounds pretty much
like the March of the Pigs from TDS. Note that this is *not* the live
video version. Why can't anyone bootleg that one? And there are not
any lengths given for the tracks. Or any information like that. Not as
impressive as the first one.

Probably the second best live audience recording of NIN. Second only
to Crossed Nails. Audience noise is audible, but at decent levels.
Very good clarity, decent bass definition. There is no encore on the
disc though. It seems as if Trent was not happy about the audience's
participation, or lack thereof.
My only complaint is that it isn't a full setlist. It is missing the
final song, Happiness In Slavery. It doesn't fade out before it
either, it just ends. You hear HIS about to start, then it doesnt. It
is a bit annoying.
Very highly recommended anyway.

Not much audience noise - sounds like it could be a soundboard. Stereo

Down In It fades out a bit early. Extra comment before Dead Souls,
about getting to say "fuck" on pay-per-view.
From OAFERGUS.
The sound quality is excellent, but... the mix is HORRIBLE! This is
the WORST hi-quality Woodstock CD to buy! Some samples are very high,
some not! This is funny cause you can hear specific samples used in
the songs, but that's all! In Burn, you can barely hear the song!

Another '90 boot, with songs from Pretty Hate Machine.
Not a great boot, but you can buy worse. Some of the songs have a
slight hissing and crackling sound to them.
One neat sound byte, he changes Sin to say "It's under my fucking'
skin" while keeping the beat of the song intact.
The Terrible Lie song starts out with a pre-recorded voice that says
"Kill or be killed. Hang around, I'll make a cock sucker out of ya."
Suck starts out with "This is a song we did with another band called
Pigface" Then that same voice from the Terrible Lie intro says "I must
stress the importance of total, I repeat total... sexual abstinence."

Comments:
Good soundboard recording from the 1994 Self Destruct tour. Apparently
Trent wasn't in the mood for performing that day, but made a good
performance anyway. The only bad things about this one are:
1. It is a bit muffled for the first nine tracks, just turn up the
frequencies a bit on the equalizer until it sounds fine.
2. It is not the complete Happiness In Slavery at the end, it fades
out about a minute before the end of the song.

Comments:
Probably the worst '94 live recording, although Self Destruction Men
is pretty close to it. Really wierd equalization. The highs are muted,
and bass is messy.
The best way to describe it, is: Turn it on in one room, then go into
the next room, and close your eyes. That's what it sounds like being
in the parking lot next to a stadium where the concert is. Yes it is
that bad.
Get another live recording if at all possible.

This is a good import, with music from Pretty Hate Machine, and Suck
from Broken. It is not soundboard, but the clarity is excellent. The
crowd noise isn't too much, but it is enough to give you a 'feel' of
being at the concert
Before I got this boot, I listed to mostly The Downward Spiral songs.
The live versions off of Industrial Iguanas were so cool that I'm
listening to Pretty Hate Machine more and more. It has better live
versions of the Pretty Hate Machine songs than you can find on the
later imports that focus more energy into The Downward Spiral sings.
Trent changes the beginning of Terrible Lie to say "... I think you
owe me a great big fucking apology!"
He is also heard saying something like "Is it really neccessary to
beat the fuck out of someone that is cleaning up the stage?"
Also, a member of the audience is heard saying "Pretty weird stuff!"
in the middle of That's What I Get. Nice touch.

As the title suggest this bootleg is more "mellow". There is a great
number of tracks with no words, also there are two new songs/remixes.
The first one is a remix of A Warm Place called Naked. It is twice as
long as the orginal with the last part when Eraser fades in, stop and
there is that humming and then more mellow keyboard riffs. The other
is A Warm Fuck which is 12:00 minute remix of Eraser/A Warm Place that
fades in and out of both songs. In the beginning there is Trent saying
[hard to make out] "Taste you, find you, fuck you, fuck you, fuck you,
smash me, break me, hate me, erase me" and then in the middle "smash
me, smash me, smash me". Overall this is a VERY good import if you
like Trent's mellow side. It can be compared to Rusty Nails ][ and
Purest Feeling in terms of sound quality.

Recorded at Woodstock '94. Soundboard recording. Audience noise is
overwhwelming at times. Some instruments, including the vocals cut out

the field. Decent recording. Sometimes bass gets undefined. Electronic
parts to the songs are remarkably clear most of the time. Decent boot.

Comments:
This recording is 'ok'. It gets very distorted at times, and sound
errors are frequent. Instead of leaving the concert 'as-is', they
re-arranged it. At the end of each song, you can hear another song
beginning to play as it fades out into a different song. It gets
really annoying. There is a bad sound error on track five (Pinion/Mr.
Self Destruct); between the two songs there is a loud static/random
noise. Track two is actually Wish then The Downward Spiral, and Track
9 (Happiness In Slavery) is excellent until the distortion really
kicks in and ruins it. Trent is in a bad mood on this one too. If you
can find a taped copy, take that instead.

The best concert quality recording from the "Now I'm Nothing" tour in

Ringfinger. Justify (Sanctified) is played the same way it is on the
Killer Instinct CD I've heard (same as Time To Suck), but not as
distorted. That's What I Get is just quieter and the audience sings
along to it on-key. The version of Suck is totally different from
what's on the other boots. It is like the Suck on Demos & Remixes but
with more background sounds and weird guitar effects added to it, also
with louder drums.
Ringfinger has guitars playing at the beginning instead of the normal
"dig-dugs", and it starts with a voice saying "I want to hear your
scream..."
Also, the Intro in Track 1, "Intro / Terrible Lie", is NOT the rare
song "Now I'm Nothing" but rather some odd monotonous instrumental
before Terrible Lie.

Audience noise is minimal and the recording is fairly decent. Trent
does some improvisation between the songs, which includes his usual
brand of swearing at the audience, and few tiny intros to songs (such
as 'this is an old one' for Down In It), and at times even adds a
'thank you'. Trent does a tiny tribute to the original version of Suck
by screaming 'suck suck suck!' twice at the end of it, once after the
final 'how does it feel', and then again right at the end of the song.
Trent also says a nice minute and a half introduction for Adam Ant,
where he gives some background on the connection between Adam Ant and
Nine Inch Nails. 'Physical', 'Red Scab', and 'Beat My Guest' are all
sung by Adam Ant. Overall, I'd call it a RELATIVELY good CD.

Another recording from Flashback Worldproductions, and a damn fine
recording too (not as good as Crossed Nails though). Lots of bass, but
not an overdose-distorting amount, make this another must-have.
Something was edited out between Head Like A Hole and Closer. The only
bug/error on this recording is in Closer at the end of the last few
verses, there is a loud 'THUMP' which you have to be prepared for.
This is a very loud recording and it has one of the best live
recordings of The Downward Spiral.

Painful Convictions is a great bootleg. It has a few of the NIN
phantom songs and a good Woodstock cd. It is a pretty good soundboard

* Recorded at "the right track studios" - cleveland, ohio. november
1988.
These are the studio demos for Pretty Hate Machine (halo 2). They
appear to have been mastered off of the original DAT tapes used for
recording in the studio.
This is a studio recording, with live vocals, and drums. Excellent
quality, highly recommended. I'm pretty sure it's just a studio
recording, like a trial run, of their concert from the time.
It has the only known studio recordings of "Maybe Just Once", "Purest
Feeling", and "Intro to Sanctified". It has a version of "Twist" on
it, labeled as "Ringfinger" in the liner notes. The version of "Kinda
I Want To" is the very 80's euro pop sounding version. The whole album
has a very 80's electronic-pop sound to it.
The vocals in the version of "The Only Time" on it make it sound like
he really is drunk.
Excellent quality, full stereo seperation. Very highly recommended to
hear where Trent was coming from when he made Pretty Hate Machine. No
audience noise, as there wasn't an audience.

Another review, by individual Tracks:
1. A cool instrumental, with a Sanctified-like sound.
2. A little diffrent from the version on PHM . This one sounds
creepier. The samples from Midnight Express are replaced with:
"Get in there and give it a try, go ahead give it a try right now,
doesn't that feel good? There, now you're ready get in there and
get the job done. Life is good life is terrific, thank you God for
another wonderful day!". Anyone know what this comes from?
3. I like this song a lot. It has a strong 80's synthpop feel to,
which can be good when done right (Ministy's 'With Sympathy' did
it dead wrong).
4. Like 3, this one has a strong synthpop sound to it, which I like.
I wish they had released this version instead of that tribal crap.
5. In this one Trent actually sounds drunk. It sounds more 80's-ish
than the released version, but is still very simular.
6. This is about the same as PHM, but a little more rough.
7. This song sounds pretty bad. Parts of it are sort of cool, though.
And the lyrics are great ("she could be a savior, with everything
she does, or some kind of punishment, for people just like us").
8. Sounds a lot like PHM only with diffrent lyrics. It also loses the
Jane's Addiction sample.
9. This is a strange mix, less hip-hopish with more industrial, a
real cool sample at the beginning (a scream). It still retains the
original flavour of the original version.

Comments:
This album is exactly the same as the Demos And Remixes one, except
that the presentation is much weaker. The cover has a simple blue
design, and the songs have terrible names. The only thing approaching
a redeeming feature is that the sound quality is actually on par with
(if not slightly better than) the quality of Demos And Remixes.
If at all possible, get Demos And Remixes rather than this one.

Comments:
This recording is quite unique. It is a 64 minute long continuous
megamix of good NIN songs. THe mixing is done quite well, and in some
cases, yields really cool sounding melodys. "All the Pigs, All Lined
Up" with the hihat from "Memorabilia" comes to mind. That one just
sounds so cool.
It is not without its faults though... "Heresy" ends, then "Head Like
A Hole" starts, with a gap of silence. In "Closer To God" (Track 11),
there is an editing glitch, and the volume fluctuates because of it.
(a part of the song repeats, then it skips foreward. The same thing
happens again in "Sin" (Track 16).
Most of the mixes are quite impressive, and some are obvious. Not
'obvious' in the sense of "It is obvious that that two songs are mixed
together", 'obvious' in the sense that if I were to make a continuous
mix, I'd combine the songs. "Twist" to "Ringfinger" and "Kinda I Want
To" (From Pretty Hate Machine) to "Down In It" come to mind.
All in all, it is a very good cd, as all songs were mixed from other
CDs. Highly recommended if you want to run a NIN Party that will only
last about an hour.
From ANON.
I have a Marilyn Manson White Trash Vol.II: 1991 Lunchbox Demos CD
that actually has Rusty Nails recorded on it. The CD has all the
Marilyn Manson artwork and such, but the music is NIN. I'll guess that
it is very rare just because it was a screw-up.
From LANCE
The quality sounds like a real official release it is so good. There
are 2 exceptions when the sound fades out. He repeats a line once too.
The typing on the box is real bad. How can you mispell heresy?
They combined alot of songs like heresy and heresy blind. All of the
songs were shortened so much that you miss alot of it. Underneath the
Skin had 5 minutes cut out. Happiness in Slavery surprisingly had no
words.
It is good with all the slightly different versions and combined
songs. Recommended.
From DANS.
Here's what the major faults on the recording are:
* 11 - Closer To God: volume fluctuates at one point and skips back
on itself very slightly.
* 14 - Kinda I Want To: an editing problem, Trent sings "I can't
shake this feeli - "... "I ca - "... before continuing as usual
with "there's a devil..." but the beat stays intact.
* 16 - Sin: Changes from stereo to mono.

Comments:
Here's what the faults on the recording are:
11 - Closer To God: volume fluctuates at one point and skips back on
itself very slightly.
14 - Kinda I Want To: an editing problem, Trent sings "I can't shake
this feeli - "... "I ca - "... before continuing as usual with
"there's a devil..." but the beat stays intact.
16 - Sin: Changes from stereo to mono.

Comments:
How does it compare to Rusty Nails I?
1.) The tracks blend much better than Rusty Nails 1. It seems almost
professional the way Something Blue goes to the Ruiner remix, and the
Memorabilia background stays with Wish for its first 40 seconds and is
incredible.
2.) It contains more unreleased tracks They are not *truly*
unreleased, because they came from other imports. Then again, having
it contain such a large number of otherwise unreleased tracks makes
this seem like a "Best of NIN Imports" album.
3.) There are no annoying recording errors anywhere -- unlike Rusty
Nails I. As I said before, this sounds so professional that Trent
himself may have done it!
Comments from JASON.
In Reptile, there's a bit of an oddity in that the part with "she
spreads herself wide open to let the insects in" is repeated, but the
rest is just like the normal version.
Comments from USER.
Heresy / Blind starts as halo 8 Heresy and mixes into blind halfway
through.
When Head like a Hole mixes into Clay, it loses a load of treble and
sounds a bit crap really.
Something Blue mixes well into Ruiner because the Hitman made
Something Blue because (I'm guessing) he couldn't mix the two Clouser
remixes together without it. Basically, Something Blue is contrived to
mix the two. I concede that Memorobilia / Wish is impressive, although
it sounds a bit awkward.
Although the only recording mistake is the repetition of "she spreads
herself...", the mixes between tracks are weak. As an example, March
of the Fuckheads actually finishes before HiS starts, and the same
happens between Wish and Something I Can Never Have. I prefer the
first CD to this.

Comments:
Well, I just made the mistake of wasting $25 on a NIN bootleg. I like
listening even to the lowest-quality live bootlegs, so it's not often
that I would consider buying a NIN cd to be a waste of money, but for
RN3, I'll make an exception.
After the surprisingly high quality of Rusty Nails 1 and 2
(*especially* of Rusty Nails 2), I didn't think twice about it. Now
I'm wishing for some form of time travel.
Not only does this have a horrible tracklisting in regards to the
songs that were picked, the cool transitions between them that are the
trademark of Rusty Nails 1 and 2 are nonexistant; in many places the
transitions are awkward and amatuerish, and in other places they do
not exist at all (between two songs has been inserted what sounds like
a clip from an S&M porno flick.) Others sound like they were intended
to be innovative, but just do not fit in either rhythmically or
tonally.
The cheesiness of this disc is almost beyond belief. The first track,
which is the music played during the introductory "pick a skill-level
and episode" Quake map, has been augmented with a lot of whining,
screaming, and general silliness. If it was intended to produce some
sort of emotional response, it didn't work. I'm not sure where the
voices on this track came from; they might have been recorded
exclusively for this disc, although if I were responsible for it, I
sure wouldn't want my voice on it.
What's probably the stupidest thing about this disc is that it is *all
one track*. Yes, there are 18 songs on the disc, but the disc hasn't
even been tracked to divide them up. Want to listen to something
halfway through the disc? Get ready to fast-forward.
The money you would spend purchasing this disc would better be used
for more worthwhile purposes, such as buying sunhats for your
racehorses, a bottle of "industrial-strength" oven cleaner, or a
solar-powered flashlight.
This is JMHO, of course; it's your money, and I welcome any and all
opposing viewpoints. I'll keep the disc because I'm a collector, but I
forsee it gathering a lot of dust.
Forewarned is forearmed.

Yes, another Woodstock boot...
This CD is in some respects better than, and in some respects worse
than When The Whip Comes Down. First of all, It starts with Larry
"Bud" Melman introducing the group, then fades up in the middle of
Pinion.
All of "March Of The Pigs" is present. "Closer" doesn't have the
screwup in the end of it that When The Whip Comes Down has. "Reptile"
fades up while the last notes are being played "Closer". All of
"Reptile" is also present.
Throughout the CD, there are these annoying pops. There is a fairly
loud pop/click sound, the sound is silent, then the sound builds back
up to full volume. (all in about 1/2 second or less.) It gets to be
really annoyoing after a while. I have no clue as to what it's from.
Here are the times for the pops:
* Track 1 (Terrible Lie) 4:01, 4:46, 6:19
* Track 2 (Sin) 1:30
* Track 4 (Something I Can Never Have) 3:06
* Track 6 (Reptile) 0:47
Here is the text blurb in the booklet -- copied verbatim:
Few artists of 1990's have caused as munch of a commotion as
Trent Reznor, the fury-filled mastermind behind Nine Inch Nails.
Dipping into a cauldron of industrial strength technorock laced
with near lethal doses of metallic punk, Reznor wages full frontal
sonic assaults drawn from the darkest recesses of the human psyche.
As the saying goes: is forewarned
"munch", "is forewarned"? Huh?
All in all, it is a decent boot. Unless you want the intro, and all of
"Reptile", don't bother. Just get When The Whip Comes Down.

Comments:
This is a very nice live bootleg; it's not as high-quality as, say,
Children of the Night, but it's a lot of fun to listen to, especially
given Trent's trademark colorful comments throughout the show. Given
the fact that it is soundboard-quality, and that Trent had a pretty
colorful show, you can't go wrong.
This is an excellent live bootleg, so allow me to indulge with a
description of the tracks:
(1) Pinion / Terrible Lie
This is pretty much the standard live version of Terrible Lie,
introduced by about forty-five seconds of Pinion (as the the
title suggests!) Just as he does on Children of the Night,
Trent replaces "I'm alone alone in a world you must despise"
with "I'm all alone in this fucking world you must despise."
(2) Sin
The introduction to this song is different than what appears on
Pretty Hate Machine; instead of the traditional intro, material
from "Sin (Dub)" (on Halo Four) is used instead. There are some
audio problems during this song; the mikes cut out, and you can
hear Trent laugh in what I assume to be a mixture of amusement
and disgust.
(3) March of the Pigs
Trent begins this song by yelling "Hey .. fuck you, fuck you,
fuck you, pricks! Oink, oink!" The rest of this is pretty much
the standard live March of the Pigs, which is actually a
mixture of the original song and the extended "All the Pigs,
All Lined Up" from the MOTP single. Of note: he replaces "Now
they can all sleep soundly, and everything is all right" with
"Now they can all sleep soundly, and all you fuckheads are all
right."
(4) Something I Can Never Have
Pretty much standard fare. This sounds like most every live
performance of this song, which in turn sounds like the version
on PHM. Trent is a bit out of breath; MOTP wore him out.
(5) Closer
This song begins with a slightly different intro; beyond that,
it's very similar to the version on TDS.
(6) Reptile
Again, very similar to the original song on TDS.
(7) Wish
Trent opens this by saying to the audience "You ready? ..
Yeeaahhhhhh." Beyond that, there's nothing really of note in
this performance that differs from the original version on
Broken.
(8) Suck
This sounds a lot like the live version on Demos and Remixes
(you would it expect it to, right?) Here, they cut the vocals
out during the chorus to allow the audience to yell "Suck!!
Suck!! Suck!!" Because this is a true soundboard recording,
it's tough to tell how enthusiastic the audience response was.
In a display of blasphemy, Trent replaces the phrase "I'm Jesus
Christ on ecstasy" with "I'm Jesus Fuck on ecstasy." This is
followed by an odd segue into the Fixed remix of Last (Throw
This Away), with Trent singing "I am so dirty .. on the fucking
inside .." Apart from this, this version of the song sounds
very, very similar to the D & R version.
(9) The Only Time
Pretty much standard fare; there's nothing majorly different
between this live performance and the PHM version.
(10) Get Down Make Love
Trent apparently expected the audience to participate more in
this song than they actually did. While singing the chorus of
the song, he stops singing for "Get down make love ..",
apparently wanting the audience to take it from there. After
the second verse, the audience response is less than
enthusiastic, which prompts Trent to chastise them. "You know
you know the fucking words!!!" he yells at them. This is
followed by a disappointed "Awwwwwww .."
(11) Down In It
Trent begins this song by announcing "Ooooooooooooooh .. does
anybody out there have an N-M-E [New Music Express] on them?
Anybody have an N-M-E they can pass up to the front? No? You
guys understand English? I just took a shit, and I need
something to wipe my ass with! Anybody got an N-M-E they can
pass up to the fucking front? .. Here's a song about fucking!"
Again, in this song, at several spots Trent expects the
audience to take the lyrics, but apparently they don't; he
bangs on the mike with his hand as if he's expecting something
more.
(12) Big Man With A Gun
Trent starts this song out with a rallying cry: "Come ON!!!" He
then offers some advice to the audience: "If anybody feels like
hurting themselves .. you should do it NOW!!!" Beyond that,
this is pretty much standard TDS fare.
(13) Head Like A Hole
Pretty standard. Trent makes it a point to refer to "God *of*
money" as opposed to "God Money," as he does on PHM. This ends
the concert, and marks the beginning of the encore.
(14) Dead Souls
This is a very nice live recording of this song, and it sounds
very similar to what appears on The Crow soundtrack. In a rare
show of gratitude (for this particular show, anyway) Trent
begins the song with a humble "Thank you .." This was a very
nice selection to play for the beginning encore; it's a
somewhat unexpected song.
(15) Help Me I Am In Hell
Much like on Broken, the sole purpose of this song is to serve
as an intro to "Happiness In Slavery"; the version that was
performed in this concert is a slighly expanded version of the
original song.
(16) Happiness In Slavery
Standard fare for a live version of HIS; this particular
rendition is cut short, but not by much. It fades out at the
end. Trent's comments including replacing "I have found you can
find happiness in slavery" with "I have found you can find,
fuck you."

The first four songs are from a Holland Radio Interview broadcast the

the cover as being in Vienna. However, they are soundboard recordings
of these songs, and they are mixed very well on this CD, and are of
excellent quality.

It is a 2CD set, the first cd is live from the Self Destruction tour.
The sound on it is average, sometimes it is hard to hear trent, but
the instruments come through very well, and the crowd does not get
very annoying ever.
The second cd continues with Closer, Dead Souls, and a couple other
live songs. Trent adds in some things, such as "This is for you guys
on the floor" and "This is only for you guys. Everyone sitting down,
fuck off." From track 5 onward, it is the same as the Purest Feeling
release.
If you don't have Purest Feeling and can't find it, or a better boot
from the '94 tour, then this might be acceptable.

This is a fair concert recording. Audience noise is quite high, quite
annoying at times. It gets hard to hear the music at times, from the
sheer volume of the audience noise.
If you really want these tracks from this gig, get either Solid Gold
Hell, or The Secret Unbroken Gig.

Comments:
Decent concert recording from the Self Destruct 94 tour. Audience
noise is audible but doesn't get annoying, and performance is good.
This concert was so long, some stuff had to be edited out. They cut
out Head Like a Hole at the end of Down In It, and only the first two
verses of Suck were there. At least they made it sound like it really
was the end of the concert at the second verse of Suck and not
something lame like a sudden end or fade-out.
There is a sound error, more of an error at recording time, where the
stereo image shifts left and right every once in a while.

The first part of this show is from the Irving Plaza Show in New York
City (pre-Pretty Hate Machine), while the second part was recorded
during the Lollapalooza tour of '91.
The actual sound quality isn't perfect, but it is pretty good. It is
an audience recording, using a DAT. Both shows on it are about the
same quality roughly. The content of the CD is great if you want early
material and the complete Lollapalooza show including the most
complete version of Now I'm Nothing I have yet to hear.

The end of Hurt is cut off and fades out after 'and you could have it

Trent also messes up the beginning verse of 'The Becoming' by singing
the second verse first. Otherwise, the sound quality is pretty good.
The song labelled 'Warszawa' is actually the instrumental part where
Trent plays the saxaphone. David Bowie sings the lyrics 'she could
have been a killer'. This track has been labelled as 'Intro To Scary

This is the same show as Slaves with some extra miscellaneous tracks
thrown onto it. It has three sections on it.
Tracks 1-10 are the same as on Slaves, sans one track.
Tracks 11 and 12 are recorded from Lollapalooza in '91. They are
decent recordings if you ignore all the volume fluctuations in track
11, which you can't because they happen continually throughout the
track. It gets exceedingly annoying.
Tracks 14 and 15 are from the same recording as the first 4 tracks of
Solid Gold Hell, but are of much worse mix quality. The tracks fade in
and out badly, instead of Solid Gold Hell's really nice cuts.
Overall, It's not worth any price for it. Even with the Lollapaloza
tracks.

This is the same bootleg as Killer Instinct but worse quality. Choose
Killer Instinct over this one if at all possible.
The first part is the same as By Bizarre Hands, and the second is from
the same show as Goldwyns in Birmingham in England.
A review of the first 7 tracks is available in the By Bizarre Hands

The second part, tracks 8-13 are another story altogether. They are
decent quality, until the sound gets a tad loud, then you notice that
there is craploads of distortion recorded into the songs. It is
dealable, but can get annoying. It is a shame that there is distortion
in these tracks, as the bass and treble in them is excellent. The
distortion is overpowering though.

It is pretty good. It is a compilation of stuff from other bootlegs.
Apparently Ruiner is not exactly the same as the one on Halo10v2, due
to the fact that some samples have been removed from it (presumably
those that were illegally used).
From ANON.
While listening to the mix of Something Blue and Ruiner on Rusty Nails
][, I realised that track 6 (Ruiner) on this CD (Ultra Rare Tracks) is
actually lifted right from the Rusty Nails ][ CD! The difference
between the H10v2 mix and the Rusty Nails mix are as follows:
"the Hitman" must have isolated Trent saying "everything's blue in
this world" from The Downward Spiral : the bottom", as we hear "ev -
ev - ev- ev -everything's blue in this world" at the start, and in the
silence near the start of the h10v2 version he's inserted the scream,
also taken from the downward spiral : the bottom, but it's cut to
about 0.5 seconds long.
To avoid playing any of Closer to God, the next remix on rn2, the
track on Ultra Rare Tracks fades quickly about a second from the end
of the track.

14. Head Like A Hole (Opal) -- It is somewhat upbeat, and has the "You

Comments:
Probably the best live recording around. It is a soundboard quality
recording from the "Woodstock Fest" (as it says), but unlike Mud Pigs,
this one is in stereo. It makes a huge difference. It does have its
drawbacks though. There were sound problems at Woodstock, and you can
hear them here. Sometimes, instruments even cut out. The sound quality
of this recording is vastly superior to Mud Pigs.
It should be noted, however, that although it does have the full
"March of the Pigs", which Mud Pigs does not, It has edited down
versions of Pinion (2:20 as opposed to Mud Pigs' 4:00) and most of
Reptile (3 minutes worth) has been removed. It starts right after Mud
Pigs' "give it.." line.
Even with its minute problems, it is very highly recommended.

Comments:
This is one of the worst bootlegs i have ever seen by NIN. All the
tracks are listed wrong (titles are screwed up really bad), songs cut
in and out horribly, bland sounboard recording, too much bass over too
little treble, stereo keeps shifting, no date is listed, but I have a
Woodstock CD so I knew where it was from. Reptile cuts in without
fading or anything-3 seconds of nothing and then the song just starts
from the middle. Sin starts during track one but switches to track two
after like 45 seconds. What I am trying to say is if you see this
import, DO NOT BUY IT. I dont remember much about it, because needless
to say, i didnt buy it, but it is really, really bad.

Comments:
The Woodstock Octopuss Boot is a decent bootleg. It is in stereo, it
is clear, the bass is defined, the crowd noise is extremely low. The
only time you can hear faint noise from them is during the really
quiet parts of Something I Can Never Have, and other quiet parts in
some songs. Overall a good bootleg of Woodstock. I don't know it
compares to When The Whip Comes Down, but it is probably somewhere
close to it.

* Tracks 14-15 with David Bowie.
This is a live recording from the Outside '95 tour. It includes some
songs not played on previous tours such as The Becoming, the new
version of Sanctified (pianos instead of bass guitar), the Rick Rubin
remix of Piggy, the vocal-flanged-modified version of Gave Up, and the
instrumental version of Eraser ('Version With Worms' remix?)
Track four is a new quick drum introduction to the new version of
Sanctified. The Intro To Scary Monsters is a slow instrumental that
plays like A Warm Place until Trent begins playing the saxaphone and
David Bowie starts speaking overtop of the music. Then loud drums
begin playing and improvised guitars kick in for a few seconds
starting Scary Monsters.

This hour of Nine Inch Nails history gives an interesting glimpse at
the development of the band, including how Trent Reznor got his start
into music, right on through to how he makes the transition from his
computerized studios to a live band. There is some misinformation
involved (as is the case with anything), but this can be overlooked
fairly easily.

* This cassette collects many of the remixes and production work
that Trent Reznor has done, in addition to some interview snippets.
* It was created by a an Internet Fan Club.
Most of these aren't really rare or anything, but if you want a bunch
of stuff that Trent has worked on and you don't want to spend all the
money on the singles, it's a good tape.
