q. i just downloaded the theme and installed it. installation went fine, but now i tried to double click "nine inch nails (high color).theme" and windows brings up the "open with" dialog box. whats up?

a. the microsoft plus! pack is needed to install themes in windows 95. make sure you have the desktop themes portion of the plus! pack installed. if you don't want to pay $30 it, you can try two different programs that are designed to allow the use of themes without the plus! pack. i am not the author of these programs, nor have i ever used them so i cannot offer support for them if you have trouble. the two programs you might want to try are free theme and desktop themes

q. i have installed the theme but i would like to change the startup and shutdown screens back to the ones that originally came with windows. what do i do?

a. you need to replace three files: (these files are offline temporarily)

• logo.sys (127k) - this is the windows startup screen. put it in your root directory (c:\)
  
• logow.sys (127k) - this screen says "please wait while your computer shuts down", put it in your windows directory (c:\windows)
  
• logos.sys (127k) - this screen says "it's now safe to turn off your computer", it also goes in the windows directory (c:\windows)
  
• you can download a zip containing all three files, it is 94k
