N.E.R.D., composed of
Neptunes duo Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, plus
MC Shay, recently enlisted Nine Inch Nails frontman
Trent Reznor to record an alternative remix of "Lapdance"
for the group. Said to be released to radio stations
in a matter of weeks, according to Launch.com, the
official N.E.R.D
website beat today's limited medium by exclusively
offering the remix in high/low streaming real audio
and windows media format quality.
Wlilliams says he is
happy with they way the remix turned out. "It was
a pleasure meeting Trent, and I was very excited to
know our music reached the likes of someone of his
stature," he noted to Launch earlier this month. "With
all the dope shit he creates, and with the albums
they have, it was great to have him remix our single."
Although I have yet to
personally hear the mix for myself, which was website
released a day or so ago on the Preview
Album page, Adam
Willis submitted his first listening thoughts
and mentioned it was an improvement. "It's pretty
much like the original song," he said, "but with more
guitar, and some heavier bass drops."
Unfortunately, it's
still unknown if N.E.R.D plan to commercially release
the remix, since they've already released a 4 track
"Lapdance" single on May 22nd. (See "N.E.R.D.'s
"Lapdance" Single Available" for more info) These
days, promotional release only singles are not uncommon.
Take for instance Charlie Clouser's remix of Deftone's
"My Own Summer," an amazing remix that never saw its
public limelight except on selected alternative radio
stations.
Nevertheless, I hope
to find out if NIN's remix doesn't meet the same fate
from N.E.R.D's label and report back if they plan
to release the single commercially anytime soon. Stay
tuned...
