Union Underground Chats About How Manson First Heard Them & Their Thoughts About Manson's Stage Show

Featured in the music section of the December 15th "Weekender" of the San Antonio Express News is a very brief interview with Union Underground about how Marilyn Manson first heard "Turn Me On Mr. Deadman," and snagged the band to open the first leg of Marilyn Manson's "Guns, God & Government" tour.

The music section also features a lengthy article on Marilyn Manson, and short sections on Godhead and Cold (who are now opening for Mansn with Godhead) and pictures of all three bands that we've all seen.

San Antonio-based rockers The Union Underground recently opened 30 shows on Marilyn Manson's current tour. Guitarist Patrick Kennison shares the experience.

Q: So did you get to hang out with Manson?

A: Yea, him and Twiggy came down on the first night and told us the story of how they first heard of the Union Underground. It was pretty impressive (laughs). He was at a strip and he said the strippers were all ugly, but he heard "Turn Me On Mr. Deadman" and really liked it. Then it was just calls going out and people on phones.

Q: You guys are known for putting on a fair-size production when you play live. Did you learn anything from Manson in that regard?

A: Oh, big time. We watched everything come together from the technical side to the production. He has his hands on everything. He's very detailed and it pays off. He's really into the spectacle that he's putting on. He makes sure you get your money's worth.

juLia.NNe would also like to add that in a recent interview with Cold in the SA-based metal mag Edge, "Cold called Union Underground 'the Union Underwear,' and accused them of ripping off bands such as Powerman 5000, Static-X and Rob Zombie." Contacted by 99.5 KISS's Chuck Stanley for a response, the Union Underground replied, "Who? What's the name of the band?"
