Wes Craven Signed To Direct American McGee's "Alice"

According to Aint it Cool News, Harry reported yesterday that American McGee, the creator of the sadistically twisted and dark 3D action game version of Lewis Carroll's famous Alice in Wonderland, has sold the rights to his now one day old Electronic Arts PC game to Dimension Films. "Not only that," added Harry, "but John August (a screenwriter on Go, Barbarella, Titan AE, Scooby Doo, Charlie's Angels and Jurassic Park III) has signed on to write the screenplay, which [the first draft] is due this January."

In a new interview with American McGee from Well Rounded Entertainment, that after 10 months of negotiations, Dimension Films has committed to make a film version of McGee's "Dark Wonderland," with Horror Director Wes Craven on board to direct!

"The story will go pretty much hand-in-hand with the game's plot," explained Well Rounded. "Collision Entertainment will co-produce with McGee." So far, no stars have signed on, but McGee says, "We have heard a rumor that Natalie Portman had called. I think that'd be pretty cool."

"McGee made it very clear throughout the production process of Alice that the game had nothing to do with the Disney version of the story," said Well Rounded. "It's somewhat ironic," the site added, "that Dimension Films will be putting out the film. Dimension, you see, is owned by Miramax, which is, in turn, owned by (you guessed it) Disney."

Although the article doesn't mention Chris Vrenna, you'd wonder if he would score the music the movie, since he composed the music for the dark, edgy and slightly disturbed game... Now, somebody just needs to make a movie out of Quake and get Trent Reznor to score the film too!

Fueled by the Quake III engine, American McGee's highly buzzed Electronic Arts' 3D action PC game can now be found at a local retailer near you. Catch Well Rounded's entire interview with the renowned level designer, which his impressive list of credits includes levels design for Doom II and the Quake series.

Thanks a lot to: Blu for the heads up!
