Marilyn Manson Chats With Howard Stern On Air Two Days Ago; Full Recap With Audio
Fans who missed the phone call Marilyn Manson made to Howard Stern two days ago, you're in great luck. We have both a link to the broadcast in MP3 format and a complete recap from Stephanie Hairston!
"I woke up to Howard Stern Wednesday morning (around 6:30 AM) and was listening to him half-asleep when he announced that Marilyn Manson was going to call in and talk briefly," she explained! Apparently, the New York Post had printed that Manson came on to Stern in a nightclub after a show, and Stern himself felt a little odd about this recent encounter. "Stern and Robin Quivers recounted their version of the story: Stern went to the show and really enjoyed it, then went to a club afterwards where Manson & Co. were hanging out," she said. "Stern walked over to an area where Twiggy was hanging out and Rose McGowan and Manson were sitting next to each other on a couch. Manson greeted Stern with a hug, then Stern sat on the end of he couch with Rose in between him and Manson." Howard recalled that Manson was complimenting him on how good he looked that night, and suddenly Stern noticed that Manson was "massaging" his knee. "I've never had a guy come on to me before," said Stern, "and it was really weird." Stephanie continued to explain, "Stern went on to say that his daughter asked him about it and was excited, that she liked the idea of him hooking up with Manson better than getting a new girlfriend."
"This is quite a bit to take directly after waking up in the morning," Stephanie added, "and I about rolled out of the bed when I realized that Manson was calling in right then, and that I was going to be able to catch his comments before I got up and got ready to go to my first class." First, Manson said that he was not coming on to Stern and had no "homosexual feelings" towards him, and that to him, Stern was more of a brotherly figure he'd like to "sit down and watch Jerry Springer with." Manson, Robin, and Stern tried to figure out what had happened. Stern thought Manson maybe had been on Ecstasy, but Manson said that he was just "really drunk" and was scared to take X because he didn't want to love everyone--"That's the last thing I want," he said. "Both said it was likely he had confused Stern's leg for Rose's, but Manson said that he couldn't remember, and that if he had done it consciously, it would have been a "brotherly" gesture, not a sexual overture," Stephanie commented.
Manson told Stern that he felt connected to him because they both had the same strange looks, tall with a big nose. Manson suggested that Stern should release music--"My big nose sold lots of copies of my last album," Manson said. "Manson went on to say that Rose has a thing for Stern and that she wakes up listening to him on the radio in the morning," Stephanie continued, "and that if he let anybody sleep with her, it would be Stern." Stern was obviously into this idea at least in theory.
Stern asked Manson a few questions about his sexuality. Manson said his performing oral sex on another man onstage (I think Stern & Manson said it was Twiggy, but I recall Manson did this with Robin Finck) and the band "tying their penises together" were more performance art, and anything else had just been "fun and games." After Manson admitted his sexual experimentation, he recounted painful memories of his grandfather's perverted sexuality and being forced to play a game with another boy when younger where they "took off [their] clothes and hid in a closet... I didn't like it." Stephanie said, "Manson basically said he wasn't gay although he had experimented with things, and that he had no feelings of such a nature for Stern..."
"The whole bit was interesting because it was Howard doing what I love him for--asking questions no one else asks," Stephanie said, "and questions we all want to know the answers to. It was interesting hearing Manson coming across as a bit uneasy and awkward when confronting his questionable and complicated sexuality."
