New Album Rumors

Rumors have been surfacing recently about the tentative title for the upcoming NiN album, suggesting that it will be called "Falling Within." This hasn't been confirmed by anybody, and should be treated as just a rumor for now. I've heard that a similar rumor went around before the release of Halo 5, so chances are there's little truth to all this. More as I get it.

NiN Nominated For MTV Video Music Awards

The Perfect Drug is up for some MTV video music awards, including best video, best alternative video, and a few others. Here's the report from Allstar Music News:

Jamiroquai, Beck, Nine Inch Nails Lead MTV Video Noms

U2, Beck, & The Spice Girls Will Perform At Ceremony

Jamiroquai leads this year's MTV Video Music Award nominations with nine nods for the clip, "Virtual Insanity," including Breakthrough Video and Best Video of the Year. Beck came in at a close second place with seven nominations, mostly for "The New Pollution," while Nine Inch Nails trailed closely with five nominations for "The Perfect Drug."

This year's awards ceremony, which will be held Sept. 4 at Radio City Music Hall in New York, will be hosted by comedian Chris Rock and will include live performances from U2, Beck, and the Spice Girls.

Trent wins TV Guide Poll

Trent Reznor and Tori Amos picked up the respective awards for TVGuide.com's "King And Queen Of Rock And Roll" poll that I mentioned a while ago. You can find the results of that poll right here.

Broken Movie Available Online

I put this up a while ago on the temporary news page, but it's definitely worth repeating for anyone who missed it. The infamous Broken movie has been digitized and made available in full on the internet. You'll find it at http://chainsawdesign.simplenet.coom/broken.html.

NiNternet News

A number of things have been going on in the world of the Ninternet recently. First of all, the MP3 archive at nineinchnails.net has been shut down due to copyright violations. This will affect some of the links on the rare songs page, so keep that in mind. I've heard that the site's maintainor will put the songs back up as soon as he finds someone willing to host them. Check out that site for all the latest info. Also, TOSCN, "The Official Schulte Collaborator's Network," is being shut down because, in the words of Kip Maxey, its creator, it has "served its purpose." Apparently Chris Schulte got all pissed off and tried to have the page shut down due to "copyright violations" off of his TONCN page, which TOSCN is a parody of (toncn has been down recently). Maxey says Schulte's pressure had nothing to do with the site's removal. Finally, a recent MTV News Online feature about "Anti" Websites, featured links to several anti-NiN pages, including NIN MUST BE DESTROYED! and Trent Reznor Can Piss Off. Very amusing stuff.

News Page Info

I'm currently in New York with limited internet access, so I've been having a rough time keeping up with the news updates. I relocated the news page to the Angelfire server in hopes of being able to keep everything updated. Unfortunately, the page was somehow deleted. So I'm bringing everything back here now, and I hope to have a whole bunch of new news up within the next couple of days. Thanks everyone for your patience, I promise it won't be long.

"Fairy" Falls Apart

It looks like Fairy, the rumored Chris Vrenna/Billy Corgan/Marilyn Manson/Twiggy Ramirez collaboration I mentioned yesterday, has fallen apart because of Vrenna's decision to dedicate his time to Tweaker and Guns & Roses rather than help Corgan out on the new Smashing Pumpkins album. Here's the report, which seems to be the first one not to mention Chris Vrenna as a former member of NiN (looks like he's finally making a name for himself away from Reznor), from Microsoft Music Central:

Corgan Grounds Fairy

TLN: We promise you follow-ups and we deliver. Last week we told you about a potential supergroup in the making — Fairy — counting such cultural notables as top gourd Billy Corgan; King Gross-out Marilyn Manson and his equally unpretty sidekick, Twiggy Ramirez; and ultra-in-demand computer guy Chris Vrenna (late of the Smashing Pumpkins and current Axl Rose collaborator) as potential members.

Well, we can now confirm, courtesy of our vast network of covert operators, that Fairy will never move beyond the drawing board thanks to Billy C. and a certain grudge. Seems His Baldness was all gung-ho on the project, going so far as to talk some serious shop over the band-to-be with King Manson, before Vrenna let Billy know that he would no longer be working with the Smashing Pumpkins so that he might dedicate himself solely to Guns N' Roses and his own project called Tweaker.

Unhappy about having been dumped for Axl, Corgan called Fairy off before it ever flew anywhere — leaving us to wonder "What if?" forever.

As per Vrenna's involvement with the Slashless G N' R, we can tell you that he was in Los Angeles last week working with Axl on some drum and programming stuff, furthering Slash's assertion that there's gonna be nothing hard rock about the next Guns record (to quote Mr. Top Hat himself: "I'll go back to that band when they start playing rock music again"). Traditionally a journeyman, Vrenna is actually expected to ink on as a full-fledged Gun sometime in the coming weeks, though his contract will allow him an untethered chain for side projects aplenty.

Vrenna's first post-Pumpkins affair, the two-man Tweaker, made its live debut last week at New York's too-cool-for-you-fool club called Anchorage, located smack dab under the Brooklyn Bridge. Though sans vocals at that date, Vrenna's believed to be wooing some golden throats to hop on board for an album he hopes to squeeze in before the G N' R stuff gets too heavy.

Finally, the Chicago Tribune is reporting that Pumpkins drummer interim Matt Walker, still peripherally associated with Filter, has finally jumped in for keeps. Calls to super-powerful publicity folks would seem to confirm this, which is to say those folks had no comment at this time.

Chris Vrenna Keeping Busy

Since his recent departure from NiN, drummer Chris Vrenna has been keeping busy with all sorts of projects, and nothing seems to be slowing down for him. Most recently, his new solo act Tweaker performed at the Anchorage concert series under the Brooklyn Bridge last friday, June 27th. So far I've heard nothing but good stuff about the show. Vrenna, who has always been good about fan interaction, posted this "Thanks From Pod" on alt.music.nin:

Thanks to those of you here who came to the Anchorage over the weekend. It was a pleasure to meet you. Thanks for the support....

If anyone attended that concert, and would like to write up a review, please e-mail me.

In other Vrenna news, rumors are flying about what other projects he currently has going. He seems to be out of the new Hole project, and his work with Guns & Roses is still a mystery, but his involvement with Billy Corgan and Smashing Pumpkins continues. Current reports indicate that he will be involved in one of the two new Smashing Pumpkins albums, one of them a guitar/electronic type record, and the other an accoustic album (i think i can guess which one vrenna will be working on). There are also rumors that he's starting up a side project called "Fairy" with Billy Corgan, Marilyn Manson and Twiggy Ramirez. Also, the new Circus magazine has this to say about Vrenna's participation in an upcoming all-drummer compilation album:

Nine Inch Nails drummer Chris Vrenna will be included in an instrumental percussion record called "Flyin' Traps". This collaborative record will include other famous drummers as, Matt Cameron of Soundgarden, Stephen Perkins from Porno For Pyros, Dale Crover of the Melvins, Dan Peters of Mudhoney, and J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr.
