DANCING BABY CONTEST WINNERS!
The Unofficial Dancing Baby Homepage held a contest during May/June 1997 to see who could give the Dancing Baby music that fit his dance perfectly. I recieved some great entries, but I had to narrow it down to two winners. The first, entitled "Child Prodigy," has good synchronization with the music ("Breathe" by The Prodigy), but wins mostly because it's incredibly cool! It was put together with tons of special effects, and comes out looking like a mini music video! The other winner, called "Oh Yeah Baby," gets the award for true, perfect synchronization! Without altering the baby movie in any way, the creator made it truly appear as though the baby was dancing to Yello's "Oh Yeah" (especially the last three notes!). I strongly suggest viewing both of these movies!
ohbaby.avi
A winner of the first Dancing Baby contest, this version features the best synchronization of the baby's dance and the background music. It was put together by Fabian Gordon, from an original concept by David Polivka. The baby is dancing to the song "Oh Yeah" by Yello. The screen size is larger, but the dance is relatively short (one time through). This is an .AVI file (video for windows, around 1 meg), so you should be able to view it right in your web browser (if you need a good browser, go here).
ChildProdigy.mov
A winner of the first Dancing Baby contest, this version of the baby is truly cool! Featuring different colors, a sped-up dance, and some amazing special effects, it plays like a music video! It was created by David Mingay, a media teacher at Davies's College in London. He's done one other video project so far, an environmental political thriller short with his students. You can check that out and more at his homepage. The baby in "Child Prodigy" is dancing to "Breathe" by Prodigy (which explains the name), and, though the screen is small, the movie is probably the longest version available (around 40 seconds). To view this file you'll need Quicktime software, which you'll find at quicktime.apple.com.
babycha1.avi
This version of the baby plays once through, and has some good background music. There is a slight glitch in the resolution, but nothing too serious. This is an .AVI file (video for windows, around 1 meg), so you should be able to view it right in your web browser (if you need a good browser, go here).
babycha2.zip
This is the original and most basic version of the baby. The baby does his dance once through, and there is no background music. The resolution is perfect. This is a zipped .AVI file (video for windows, under 1 meg zipped), so before you can view it you'll need to unzip it (decompress it). A .ZIP file is a file which has been shrunk down, but needs to be "unshrunk" before you can do anything with it. Go to www.pkware.com and download PKUnzip to view this file.
babygroove.qt, baby.sit
Unfortunately, the babygroove files have been temporarily removed from the server they had been stored on. Hopefully they will be available again in a matter of days. Sorry for the inconvenience, please check back soon.
This six-megabyte version features the baby dancing to Earth, Wind & Fire's "Let's Groove." It's hilarious! There is about a fifteen second music intro, then the baby begins. A large file, but well worth the d/l time. It was put together by Michael K. Smith. You can get this file in two ways:
CLICK HERE to download a stuffed (.sit) version of Babygroove. "Stuffed" means that the file has been shrunk down (similar to "zipped") and cannot be viewed until you "unshrink" it. To do that, you'll need StuffIt Expander. Click here to download Stuffit Expander for Windows. Once you unstuff the file, you'll get babygroove.qt, which you can then view with Quicktime software. To get Quicktime software, go here. NOTE TO WINDOWS USERS: Quicktime for Windows CANNOT read the babygroove.qt file. In order to view it in Windows, you'll have to rename babygroove.qt to babygroove.mov and then it should work fine.
CLICK HERE to go to a page where you'll find a link to an unstuffed version of babygroove.qt. It will take longer to download, but you can view it in your browser without worrying about unstuffing it. Again, you'll need Quicktime Software to view the file, and if you're using Windows, you'll have to rename the file to babygroove.mov before you can see it.
newgroove.mov
Unfortunately, the babygroove files have been temporarily removed from the server they had been stored on. Hopefully they will be available again in a matter of days. Sorry for the inconvenience, please check back soon.
This file, put together by Michael K. Smith, is an extended version of Babygroove. It is longer, larger, and features some new effects. The baby dances twice, to the same music as babygroove (earth, wind & fire's "let's groove"). To view this file you'll need Quicktime software, which you'll find at quicktime.apple.com. There are two places to download it, the first is via FTP, the second is via WWW.
babylow.zip
Obviously, this version features the baby dancing to "Lowrider" by War. He does his dance three times through, but the screen is smaller than most versions of the baby (it is the same size as the oogachaka baby). This version was put together by Jason Jerue. This is a zipped .AVI file (video for windows, just over 1 meg zipped), so before you can view it you'll need to unzip it (decompress it). A .ZIP file is a file which has been shrunk down, but needs to be "unshrunk" before you can do anything with it. Go to www.pkware.com and download PKUnzip to view this file.
babycha3.zip
This very popular version of the dancing baby features the background music "Hooked On A Feeling" (the oogachaka song). The baby's dance is longer than other versions (he does it once, then does it again backwards), but the screen size is smaller. This is a zipped .AVI file (video for windows, around 1 meg zipped), so before you can view it you'll need to unzip it (decompress it). A .ZIP file is a file which has been shrunk down, but needs to be "unshrunk" before you can do anything with it. Go to www.pkware.com and download PKUnzip to view this file.
shakea**.avi
The baby dances to a techno song called "Shake That A** Girl" (don't worry, it's censored for mass consumption). This version is courtesy of Armando Barbosa. Smaller screen, but long dance. This is an .AVI file (video for windows, around 1 meg), so you should be able to view it right in your web browser (if you need a good browser, go here).
techo, rasta, & retro babies
Here you will find about six different versions of the baby, all of them put together by Mark Ahn. The first, "Techno Baby," is set to the tune of "Wrapp" by Republica. The second, "Rasta Baby," has Ziggy Marley's "Look Who's Dancing" as background music. The third, "Retro Baby," features the baby dancing to "I Can't Dance" by Genesis. You will also find "Rappin' Baby," "Hendrix Baby," and more. All of these are embedded Quicktime movies that should play directly in your browser, but you may need Quicktime software, which you'll find at quicktime.apple.com.
MORE VERSIONS OF THE BABY WILL BE AVAILABLE IN THE FUTURE! IF YOU'D LIKE TO JOIN THE DANCING BABY MAILING LIST, E-MAIL ME AND LET ME KNOW!
